Week 3

The primary objective of collecting the pointcloud of the 250 CC engine is on the verge of completion.

The last week's work yielded us the mounting and inlet-exhaust manifold of the engine.

The inlet-exhaust manifold for the engine is shown below.

The final assembly we are looking at is :

Point Cloud of the 250 CC 4 Cylinder Engine

The following is the point cloud of the 250 CC diesel engine we derived with the help of the FARO ARM.
The point cloud consists of approximately 18000 points in 3D space.
The point cloud we generated is imported into SolidWorks and a pattern could be generated as shown below.

Problems:

1) The problem we are facing right now is understanding to generate a solid 3D model out of these point cloud.

2) We were able to generate a surface using the Mesh Prep Wizard option but could not make it perfect enough to use it for further analysis.

Week 2

From the last week we faced problems about how to generate the Solid 3D model out of the point cloud.

We figured out the solution to the problem and decided to take the point cloud of the individual components separately and generate the surface. So, we are working on the individual components and generated few parts of the engine as shown below.

In the above picture you can notice that the front part of the engine is ready to go and for the reference we have kept the point cloud of the engine not hidden, so that one can get a clear vision as to how we got the Solid Modelling of the Engine.
